Samantha Richard at the Commonwealth Games

Date published: 24 July 2014

Samantha Richard, a physiotherapist from Milnrow, is volunteering to help athletes at the Commonwealth Games in Glasgow.

Sam was appointed the role of team lead physiotherapist at the Athletes Village.

In an interview with the Chartered Society of Physiotherapy, Sam said: “I was a volunteer at the Olympics in 2012, and felt it would be a great opportunity to be involved at the Commonwealth Games in my own country.”

“I’m very excited about being selected to help out. I hope the Games will emphasize the importance of exercise and healthy living.”

The physiotherapists will play a key role in preparing and treating the athletes at the Commonwealth Games, which started yesterday (23 July).

Helen Rocca, General Manager at Oaklands Hospital where Sam works, said: “We’re all really proud of Sam supporting the Games.”

“She’s a huge asset to the hospital and I know she will be a huge support for the athletes there.”
