Rochdale Bangladeshi Partnership Project raises over £600 for Children of Jannah

Date published: 24 July 2014

The Rochdale Bangladeshi Partnership Project (RBPP) held its fifth annual charity Iftar – a gathering to break the fast in the Muslim holy month of Ramadan on Monday (21 July) - and raised over £600 for the charity Children of Jannah.

The event, which was attended by members of the RBPP and members of the general public, was sponsored by and held at the newly established ComuniTea Room on Yorkshire Street.

The event started with a welcome from Keith Swift, Chairman of the RBPP. The Vice Chairman, Dr Musharraf Hussain then talked about Ramadan and introduced the team from Children of Jannah.

The Children of Jannah team gave a presentation telling guests their stories. The charity is the first to support parents of Muslim families with education, counseling and training when a child dies.

Founded in 2011 by Hafizah Ismail, the charity provides telephone support, an information line, bereavement support and counseling as well as running support groups for mothers and fathers.

RBPP Project Co-Coordinator and Director of CommuniTea CIC, Dobir Miah, said: “We are grateful for the overwhelming support we received and for all of the donations made at the charity Iftar. The amount raised will mean a very worthy cause will be able to support more and more families with bereavement issues.

"On behalf of the RBPP I would like to thank all those who took part in the Charity Iftar. We hope that our contributions will go a long way to help those who are in need of counseling and support at a difficult time of losing a child.

“I would like to thank the staff at the CommuniTea Room for their great food and hospitality. I would also like to thank everyone for making it a successful and enjoyable evening.”

Dr Shamim Iqbal, representing Children of Jannah, said: “We are so happy for the help and support given to us by the Rochdale Bangladeshi Partnership Project – they truly are amazing in the way they raise funds for charities and we commend them for their work in the community.

“Can I also thank everyone who attended and made a donation.”

Members of the RBPP are still collecting money for the charity and hope to reach a total of £1,000.
