Simon Danczuk MP challenges Minister over Gaza conflict

Date published: 23 July 2014

Rochdale MP Simon Danczuk challenged Foreign Office Minister Tobias Ellwood over Government policy in Gaza.

Speaking in the House of Commons on Tuesday (22 July), Mr Danczuk described the scene in Gaza with “kids being bombed on beaches” and “tanks attacking hospitals”.

He argued that the British Government should take a stronger line on Gaza and condemn that actions of the Israelis, a view which he said was shared by “thousands of Rochdale people and millions of people in the United Kingdom”.

Mr Ellwood said he has raised concerns with the Israeli Ambassador about civilian casualties but Mr Danczuk said he should “call Israel to account for their actions in Gaza”.

Mr Danczuk says he has received hundreds of letters from constituents on the issue of Gaza and is determined that the Government is aware how strongly people in Rochdale feel about the conflict in Gaza.

He will be speaking at a Gaza rally on Sunday outside Rochdale Town Hall.
