Digital Champions ready for action

Date published: 18 July 2014

A group of RBH employees have become Digital Champions to help residents across the borough transform their lives by getting online.

The mutual housing society is currently recruiting tenants to train as Champions to help spread digital skills across their neighbourhoods.

Whether it’s downloading music, catching up on TV programmes or searching for jobs, learning how to use a computer can bring huge benefits.

All RBH employees carry out voluntary work in the community each year
and many of them have decided to use this time to pass on their IT knowledge to residents.

To prepare them for their key roles they have been receiving guidance on how to plan and deliver one-to-one training sessions.

One of those on the course was Engagement Officer Nasreen Akhtar.

Nasreen said: “I’m very excited about becoming an RBH Digital Champion as it’s a great way of making a real impact in the community.

“The training I’ve received has provided me with lots of practical advice and been really useful in preparing me for my role as a Champion.”

RBH Digital Champion Co-ordinator Miranda Clarke said: “Helping residents get online is a major priority for us as it’s something that could make such a huge difference to their lives.

“We’re delighted that tenants have already started coming forward to train as Digital Champions and it’s great to see so many employees also keen to get involved.”
