REAG and residents clean back alleys

Date published: 02 June 2014

At the request of the residents of the King Street South in Milkstone and Deeplish areas, members of REAG joined them to clean their back alleys, remove bushes and pick up litter.

Ahmed Nawaz, a resident and the Vice Chairman of the Milkstone & Deeplish Area Forum, said: "I am very grateful to all REAG members for their prompt response, valuable time and helping the residents in cleaning their back alleys.

“Myself and Ghulam Rasul Shahzad, who was the Chairman of the Milkstone Action Group, cleaned the back alleys about five years ago and more than 30 residents took part in it.

“We need to keep our back alleys and front of our properties clean to improve the environment.

“I appreciate the efforts and commitment of REAG members to improve the Borough of Rochdale and I will do anything possible to be part of the campaign.”

Ghulam Rasul Shahzad OBE, Secretary of the REAG said: “We are very pleased that now residents are contacting us and are committed to keep their back alleys and front of their houses cleaned.

"Our little time and efforts can make the Borough of Rochdale more beautiful, cleaner and greener Rochdale.

"I am thankful to all residents, women and children who joined their family members to join us. It was very success and a great day for us.

"We are a voluntary and community organisation and its members are committed to improve the environment in the Borough of Rochdale. We are trying our best to raise awareness about the importance of cleanliness. We are working with the residents, businesses, Environment Management of the Rochdale Council, Councillors individuals, Greater Manchester Waste Management Authority and national and local organisations in this respect.

"Anyone wishing to join the REAG is invited to come and join us on every Saturday at 10 a.m. outside the Castlemere Community Centre, Tweedale Street, Rochdale.

"Residents who wish to clean their back alleys or their area, should contact us on 07851 323 612 or grshahzad04@ntlworld.com.

"Please bear in mind that we are a voluntary group and would only clean the back alleys if the residents of the area join us."
