RBH project wins Community Impact Award

Date published: 07 May 2014

A Rochdale Boroughwide Housing (RBH) project has been recognised with a National Housing Federation Community Impact Award.

RBH’s 'Our Choice' programme was confirmed as the regional winner of the 'Better Neighbourhoods' award at a ceremony in Manchester. The award means that the project will now be shortlisted alongside other regional winners for the national award, to be decided in June.

Jonathan Walton, RBH Engagement Manager, said: “We are absolutely thrilled that Our Choice has won this prestigious award, and we're looking forward to competing against the best neighbourhood projects around the country for the national prize.

"Our Choice puts decision-making into the heart of our neighbourhoods and it has only been a success thanks to all the community groups and residents getting involved and taking part."

The 'Our Choice' project enables residents to shape the future of their neighbourhoods by providing a pot of money for projects that are delivered for the community by the community.

A key element of the programme is that residents have the chance to vote at events called Decision Days for the activities they want to see provided.

In 2013 and so far in 2014 over £80,000 of community funds have been allocated for projects across the Borough.
