Teenage market launched in Middleton

Date published: 19 April 2014

Middleton's teenage market was launched today (Saturday 19 April).

The market, located in Middleton Gardens, ran alongside the usual Saturday market and saw stallholders between the age of 16 and 25 sell products aimed at teenagers.

Adam Torevell from Middleton Town Centre Management and chairman of Middleton Town Team said: "It has been good for the first event but I think for
the next one, we will engage a bit more with the youth community."

Stalls at the market included sweets, handmade cards, flowers, art and accessories. Local musicians, as well as acts from Middleton Popstars Academy, provided entertainment during the day.

Bethan Broome, 16, was running a sweet stall at the market. She said: "I thought it would be a good thing to do to try and let people know about the business. It's has been good to be involved with."

Clair Potts was selling a selection of handmade cards. Clair said: "It has been brilliant. I started card making as a hobby so everything here is hand made and home made. I would definitely come along again."

Laura Tait was running a stall on behalf of Rachel Eyre. Rachel currently has a stall behind Iceland in Middleton town centre and just wanted to raise the profile of her stall.

Beautiful Blooms sells a variety of flowers and bouquets. Laura added: "I think she would definitely come along again if a stall was available. It has been a good day.”

Laura Thurston was selling a variety of accessories on her stall. She said: "I think it is a great idea. I just hope it is something that can continue."

The market was held as a way of attracting young people and families to the town centre during Easter weekend.

After the success of this first market, it is now hoped that teenage markets will run bi-monthly.
