Whilst on foot patrol, PC Lowe was approached by residents around St Anne's Academy, Middleton who were complaining that the concrete bin, that was situated had been removed from outside the school therefore generating more litter. Along with the local horse riders, expressing concerns about litter on the lanes near to the school.
PC Lowe therefore liaised with Andrew Chapman the Assistant Principle at St Anne's and also Carol Wardle the local councillor re this issue.

Councillor Wardle has raised this issue within the council and the old concrete bin will be replaced by a new one and emptied by the council.

St Anne's has provided a metal bin near to the vehicle entrance to the school which it hopes will decrease the amount of litter on the lanes highlighted by the horse riders.

The school student council has met and asked that equipment be bought by the school so they can litter pick at the front and rear of the school, later next month they will also be going out into the community and litter picking. This has been granted and ordered.

Crime Prevention tips for the week: National Stalking Awareness Day 2014

This year’s National Stalking Awareness Day campaign is focusing on stalking in the workplace and will take place on the 24 April 2014. Research has shown that in cases of employees being stalked by people other than colleagues, “nearly half of all stalkers will present at their victim’s workplace” (Mullen et al. 2009: 173). Research has also found that 50% of stalking victims have “curtailed or ceased work as a consequence of being stalked” (Mullen et al 2006: 177).

Suzy Lamplugh Trust, which runs the National Stalking Helpline and is organising National Stalking Awareness Day, decided that this was an important issue that needed to be raised, as the Helpline is often contacted by callers who are reluctant to disclose to their employer what they are going through for fear of not being understood and supported, as well as from fear of negative repercussions.

A guide for employers has been produced detailing why it is important to have a stalking policy in place and how employers can respond appropriately to disclosures of stalking from employees. This document is free to download from the National Stalking Helpline website and can be found at:

http://www.stalkinghelpline.org/wpcms/wp-content/uploads/National-Stalking-Helpline-Employers-Booklet-v0-11.pdf

On the 24 April, Suzy Lamplugh Trust and the National Stalking Helpline will be hosting a conference aimed at employers, police and support workers which will educate and inform delegates about what can be done to support and protect those who are being stalked at work, either by a colleague or someone external to the workplace.

A 14-year-old boy was robbed by two men in Middleton.

At around 6.45pm on Sunday 9 March 2014 the boy was sitting opposite the Roebuck pub in the town centre when two men approached him.

They demanded that he turn out his pockets and when he pulled out an iPhone they threatened to attack him unless he handed it over. The victim gave them the phone and the pair ran off in the direction of Tesco. The first offender is described as white, around 17 years old, 6ft tall and of medium build. He had dark, shaven hair and was wearing a black Adidas tracksuit jacket with red stripes down the sleeves and blue jeans. The second is white, around 6ft tall and was wearing a dark hooded top with the hood up.

Detective Constable Andrew Robinson said: “Thankfully the boy was not physically hurt but was very shaken by his ordeal.

"I would urge anyone who may have witnessed the robbery or who may have seen these boys acting suspiciously in the area to contact police immediately.

“Be careful when you use your phone or other valuables in public, as this may encourage thieves to target you. I would also ask you to be aware of your surroundings when using your phone.”
