Rochdale Specials Team won the Ormiston Trophy for Outstanding Team work, announced by The Lord Lieutenant of Greater Manchester, at the GMP Special Constabulary Gala awards.
The team was awarded for the important role they have played in helping police Rochdale, for their hard work and commitment over the year in which they contributed 5,000 hours, affected 46 arrests, attended numerous grade one and grade two incidents and carried out a number of warrants across the division.
The top individual award was scooped by Special Constable Tuseef Ahmed who was recognised for his determination and support provided to the Rochdale Division. He has worked over 500 voluntary hours to support policing in Rochdale.
Special Constable Ahmed has affected up to 12 arrests within the year and was recognised for his bravery in detaining two offenders off duty and his bravery shown during another incident where he helped a member of the public, even though he was subject to an assault in the process.
Rochdale Special Sergeant Charla Devereux was runner up for the Outstanding Leadership award.
Rochdale dominated the awards ceremony and Mayor Peter Rush said he was delighted and proud of the achievements of the Rochdale Specials and has invited the officers to his Chambers to receive a Mayor's award.
