Students encouraged to pursue their dreams

Date published: 23 January 2012

Primary school and secondary school students have joined together for a workshop about the importance of pursuing their dreams.

The workshop titled ‘School of Dreams’ was delivered courtesy of Honda at Siddal Moor Sports College.

The thinking skills workshop ran over two days and pupils from Heap Bridge Village Primary School, St Luke’s Church of England Primary School and Holy Family Roman Catholic and Church of England College attended.

The School of Dreams is about encouraging students to make their dreams into reality. It was developed by Honda (UK) and a team of independent education experts as part of Honda’s commitment to giving back to the local communities in which it operates.

Nigel Seaborn, Deputy Headteacher at Siddal Moor Sports College, said: “The students and staff involved had a thoroughly enjoyable time during the two days that the School of Dreams facilitators came into our school and worked their magic.

“Exciting activities, interesting facts and a challenge to turn dreams into reality left us all with lots to be pleased about and lots to look forward to.”

The School of Dreams has been carefully mapped against the National Curriculum’s Personal Learning and Thinking Skills framework. Over the course of the two days pupils experienced all ten of the learning strategies identified in the ‘Leading in Learning’ education initiative.

Darren Walker, After Sales Manager at Swansway Honda, said: “It is great to support the workshop in our local school.

“To help children understand they can turn their dreams into reality by learning to use strategies in their early lives will undoubtedly have a positive effect on the local community.

“We believe children and young adults deserve all the help they can get. Far too often we only hear negative stories about children but the School of Dreams has shown us that this is not the case.”
