The Springhill Hospice Summer Gala and Craft Fair held within the hospice’s grounds on Broad Lane on Sunday (26 June) was a huge hit with the public.
The day began with a special opening which saw ten doves let off into the bright blue sky.
Droves of people attended the fundraising day, where there was a variety of attractions for all the family from a petting zoo, Circus Jim, fairground rides and a chance to soak a volunteer in the stocks.
The donkey rides proved very popular with the children, as did the face painting and the hook-a-duck.
The fire service were also in attendance with their mascot, Welephant.
In the rear of the hospice grounds there was a selection of craft stalls, a Pimm's garden and music provided courtesy of Littleborough Brass Band.
Music was also played throughout the day by Roch Valley Radio.
The recently crowned ‘Miss Manchester’ 18-year-old Nicola McConnell from Bamford was among the visitors and people were keen to meet the talented teen who hopes to one day become a doctor.
Springhill Hospice’s Fundraising Manager, Ian Jenkins, said: “I am delighted with the turn out and I am delighted with the weather, there are so many people I must thank from the stall holders to the general public for turning up.
“Our fundraising target at any event is always £5,000, whether we get there or not I don’t know but we will certainly try.”
Update Monday 27 June: So far organisers have collected £2,600 and money is still coming in. The final figure raised will be matched by Barclays Bank. Mr Jenkins anticipates the total figure including Barclays match to be around £5,500.
