School leavers can benefit from free bus travel from September with Our Pass

Date published: 14 May 2022

The Mayor of Greater Manchester, Andy Burnham, has praised the success of Our Pass – now in its fourth year – and urged young people not to miss out.

Our Pass is a UK first. It’s aimed at Greater Manchester’s GCSE leavers and applications are now open, with eligible young people able to use their new Our Pass from the beginning of September.

For a one-off application fee of £10, members get free travel on most local bus services across Greater Manchester, making it easier to access education, work, training, culture and leisure in the city-region.

To be eligible to apply for Our Pass as part of the next intake for 2022-2023, an applicant must be resident in Greater Manchester. They must also be aged at least 16 and under 18 on 31 August 2022, which means that their DOB is between 01/09/2004 and 31/08/2006.

Those eligible for Our Pass in 2021-2022 can apply from May onwards and can start using Our Pass from Thursday 1 September.

Our Pass also provides access to a range of exclusive offers, discounts and experiences.

Since first going live in 2019, Our Pass has been supported by homegrown brands like Park Life, NQ, the Halle, Co-op, JD, Vimto, OpenMoney, Manchester City, Manchester United and Lancashire County Cricket (LCC) through a series of offers and competitions.

Current Our Pass exclusives include the chance to win VIP tickets for Park Life this June. This summer there are also hundreds of tickets on offer for the cricket at LCC’s Old Trafford ground. And there’ll be lots of new and exciting exclusives for the fresh cohort joining the Our Pass club this September.

The Mayor of Greater Manchester, Andy Burnham, said: “When I first became Mayor, I said we’d use the freedoms we have under devolution to make young people our priority for investment. I’m proud to say Our Pass is one big way we’ve been able to deliver on that promise.

“Now in its fourth year we’re seeing thousands of young people travelling to work and college in a sustainable way using Greater Manchester buses. Over the next few years, we’re committed to improving our public transport. It’s brilliant to see young people taking the lead.

“And of course, Our Pass is a lot more than just a travel pass. Members get lots of exclusives too. For our Year 12s starting something new, Our Pass will be there for you. It’s there to unlock the city-region, a pass to all 10 boroughs.”
