House every weekend at The 13ar

Date published: 29 July 2021

The Bar – stylised as 13ar – at 13A The Butts is the latest independent bar which will open in Rochdale town centre this Friday (30 July).

The 13ar is a dream realised by Leon Spencer and Nick Dowsing, who have a background in construction and joinery, but have always aspired to open their own venue.

“It’s always been a dream of mine to open a bar and I kind of fell into it,” Leon said. “This is the first bar we have run, but if it goes well, we’d look at opening another.”

Formerly a Ladbrokes, Leon and Nick have refurbished the interior of The 13ar themselves, which makes no secret of its musical preference: house, dance and garage.

Leon added: “We have been working day and night to get it ready, with the help of DJ Favours who has helped us with the music and electric side.”

The venue can accommodate approximately 50 people, and will be open Tuesday to Sunday from 12noon with live acts on select days. Leon and Nick are also looking at daytime entertainment.
