Go-ahead given for social housing in Kirkholt

Date published: 16 April 2021

Plans for new social housing on Balderstone Road in Kirkholt have been granted planning permission by Rochdale Council.

Rochdale Boroughwide Housing is building 20 new homes, which includes six two-bedroom houses and 14 houses with three bedrooms, which will all be for affordable rent. Affordable rents are rents of up to 80 per cent of market rent which registered providers of social housing can charge for certain residential properties.

The homes represent another new phase of regeneration in the Strand area, and will be built by Lovell Partnerships with the support of funding from Homes England. The homes are designed by Triangle Architects, who also designed the Strand Hub and the new Kirkholt health centre.

Clare Tostevin, Rochdale Boroughwide Housing's Director of Growth, said: “By working in partnership with the community, the local authority, and other partners, we’ve already helped to transform the heart of Kirkholt, and these additional 20 homes will provide further high quality and affordable new homes in the area.”

Work will start shortly on the new site. RBH and Lovell Partnerships are already working in the area delivering 32 new homes on the nearby site adjacent to the Strand Hub.
