Metrolink works reminder ahead of the weekend

Date published: 17 September 2020

Metrolink passengers are being reminded of planned works taking place on the line between Oldham and Rochdale this weekend.

The essential maintenance will take place on Saturday 19 September resulting in changes to services throughout the day.

From the start of service until 8pm there will be no tram service between Rochdale Town Centre and Shaw & Crompton. A bus replacement will operate during this time.

From 8pm until the end of service there will be no tram service between Rochdale Town Centre and Victoria. A bus replacement will call at all stops during this time. Customers wishing to go to Victoria or Exchange Square can alight the bus service at Shudehill or can continue on the bus down to Victoria.

Passengers are also being reminded that they must buy a ticket or touch-in and touch-out at the closest tram stops when using replacement bus services.

Transport for Greater Manchester’s Head of Metrolink Danny Vaughan said: “Unfortunately, the work will result in some disruption, but we have done a lot of planning to keep customers informed and have provided bus replacement services throughout the day.

“We would advise passengers to plan their journey in advance and allow extra time where possible.”

Due to increasing rates of Coronavirus, passengers living in Oldham must only use public transport for essential travel, only making trips that are absolutely necessary for work, school, to get supplies, to care for others or for medical reasons.

Please walk, cycle or drive instead and only use public transport if you have no other option.

You must also remember to wear a face covering when using the public transport network, including at transport hubs and interchanges, unless you are exempt. If you don’t, you may be unable to travel and you could be fined £100.
