Raising £1,000 for Bart's Legacy Cat Refuge with leg wax and 48-miles in a wheelchair

A Newhey man is aiming to raise £1,000 for Bart’s Legacy Cat Refuge with a full leg waxing and 48-mile wheelchair challenge.

Andrew Jones has pledged to wax both his legs for the local cause if he raises between £400 and £700, and also vowed to complete 48-miles in his wheelchair if he raises over £700.

He said: “My mum was a massive advocate and supporter of Bart’s Legacy, and she died of cancer in February. I would like to help with funding to support them with ongoing costs, including vets’ bills, food, upkeep, etc.”

Andrew added: “I will do four miles every four hours for 48 hours and do the leg wax in between. I would be grateful if everyone can help and donate what you can for this fantastic cause.”

Bart’s Legacy was founded in 2018, an independent non-profit refuge which runs on donations in an effort to save and re-home stray local cats.

It was started by Sue Hancox, who has been rescuing cats from a young age, after receiving a call from a friend in May 2018, who informed her that a cat had given birth in the front garden of a house in Newhey. She rescued the three newborn kittens and their mother, who she had been trying to catch for over a year.

Sue, who also helps rehome cats for Rochdale Cats Protection, transformed her cellar into a shelter, comprising of one double large pen for local cats in need, and another double large pen for ferals or strays that other rescues have trapped.
