Borough’s youth asked to help rename psychology service CPnurture

Young people across the Rochdale borough are being asked to help rename local psychology service CPnurture.

The not-for-profit social enterprise, which operates from The Esplanade, must now change its name to one without the word ‘nurture’ following a legal situation with another company.

Chartered clinical psychologist Doctor Louise Mansell, who helped found the service, which was formerly named Nurture Psychology, said: “We proposed to change the name to CPnurture, but this was not accepted by the other service, so we are using it on a temporary basis.

“We did not want to use our vital funds to dispute the name change, as every bit of our profit goes back into our service, providing support for families and projects for young people.”

Recent projects for young people include having their own songs played live on air at North Manchester Radio, and an animated story telling cared-for children’s stories.

Dr Mansell added: “With this in mind, we’ve decided to turn this into an opportunity for young people to get involved and turned it into a new project.”

The renaming project will consist of creative sessions that include learning new skills in marketing, website design and social media.

Funded by schools, social care, the NHS and parents, CPnurture was set up and founded by chartered clinical psychologists, Dr Kirsty Hughes and Dr Louise Mansell, in March 2017, swiftly growing to a team of eight.

The service has worked in the public sector with the NHS Child and adolescent mental health services, schools and children’s services as well as working alongside occupational therapists, social workers, psychiatrists, psychotherapists, speech and language therapists, and mental health nurses. Private sessions are also available.

All young people from ages seven to 18 are invited to attend a free creative session at the CPnurture office at No. 2 The Esplanade, Rochdale on Wednesday 13 November.
