Beech House student helps North of England achieve runner-up position at ISA National Athletics Finals

Date published: 14 July 2019

A student from Beech House School helped the North of England achieve a runner-up position at this year’s Independent Schools Association National Athletics Finals.

Matthew Hankinson travelled down to the Alexander Stadium, Birmingham, to represent the North of England in the Javelin in June, after winning the event at the North of England finals in Manchester the previous month.

Matthew achieved sixth place with an excellent series of throws, helping the north achieve the runners-up place, and also had the privilege of holding the 1942 and 2012 Olympic torch.

Both the Senior and Prep athletics teams from Beech House School recently made the ‘long’ journey to Manchester for this year’s North of England Finals.

In the Upper P event unfortunately none of the school’s students progressed on to the National finals, but the competition was very tough.

However, the school had some great performances, the best being by Anais Aston, who came fourth in the 800m.

Mr Sartain, Principal at Beech House School said: "I was delighted to be invited, in recognition of my contribution to ISA Sport, to present the silver medals.

"Amy Allcock, the British 400m runner, presented the gold."
