Wellfield Health Centre becomes dementia friend for Dementia Action Week

Date published: 25 May 2019

Wellfield Health Centre on Oldham Road held a 'dementia friends' event on Thursday (23 May) to mark Dementia Action Week 2019.

The event was organised by practice nurse Ruby and supported by the Alzheimers Society, which ran a 45-minute friendly and interactive dementia friends session in the surgery.

The event was attended by patients, carers, staff and representatives from HealthWatch who are now all dementia friends.

The Alzheimer’s Society’s dementia friends programme is the biggest-ever initiative to change people’s perceptions of dementia.

It aims to transform the way the nation thinks, acts and talks about the condition. Dementia friends is about learning more about dementia and the small ways you can help. From telling friends about the dementia friends programme to visiting someone you know living with dementia, every action counts.

To show their support staff, patients and carers were invited to wear purple on the day. The practice also raised £149.70 for the Alzheimers Society by holding a raffle and a cake sale.
