No Rochdale Metrolink services after woman is hit by tram in Oldham centre

Metrolink has confirmed as of 10.45am that a full service between East Didsbury and Rochdale is now operating, although severe delays are to be expected.

 


 

Metrolink services to and from Rochdale Town Centre have been suspended this morning (Wednesday 20 February) after a woman was hit by a tram in Oldham centre.

A spokesperson for the Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service confirmed to Rochdale Online a casualty was trapped under the tram, and three engines from Oldham and Chadderton and the Technical Response Unit from Ashton-under-Lyne were in attendance for approximately 45 minutes.

According to the Oldham Evening Chronicle, the woman was taken to hospital by air ambulance, but there is no update on her condition.

The North West Ambulance Service confirmed the woman was taken to Salford Royal with head injuries.

Metrolink services are currently affected in both directions between Rochdale Town Centre and Freehold.

Metrolink say that trams are only operating between East Didsbury and Freehold until further notice.

Passengers can use tickets and passes on Northern trains or the following bus services: 58, 59, 81, 83, 181, 182, and 183.

Greater Manchester Police tweeted: "The police are currently dealing with an incident at Mumps.

"The metrolink services are affected in both directions and there may be some disruption to road traffic and bus services.

"There will still be delays while an investigation takes place.

"There are road closures in place."
