Wince Brook set to benefit from new path through nature reserve

Date published: 19 February 2019

A funding application for a path winding through Wince Brook nature reserve in Middleton has been granted following the latest Middleton Township funding sub-committee meeting on 13 February.

The path was first proposed by the Friends of Wince Brook group last spring after the path from Kirkway to bridge one was regenerated.

The stone path would stretch from Davidson Drive to the boardwalks, and also from Mainway East to bridge four. Currently, both areas are just muddy fields where there hasn't been a developed footpath before.

The funding will be confirmed in writing after 5pm on 27 February, providing there are no objections.

A spokesperson for the Friends of Wince Brook said: “I'm delighted to report that our application to develop the linear footpath in Wince Brook has been granted. The local councillors were enthusiastic for the improvements, so it will enable more people to gain access.

“We have been quoted £7,100 for both improvement areas; the paths will be stone with wooden sides, so the stone doesn't spread everywhere.”

In addition, the Friends group is also set to benefit from the Tesco 'Bags of Help' scheme later this year.

Between March and April, Tesco shoppers will be able to use their blue tokens to vote for the path improvements in Wince Brook.

The winner will receive £4,000, second place £2,000 and third £1,000.

Since launching in 2015, Bags of Help has awarded more than £33 million across more than 6,400 local projects in 600 communities.
