Reminiscence at Touchstones

Date published: 13 December 2018

Carers, and the relatives they support, from the Centre of Wellbeing Training & Culture (CWTC) Wellbeing Café visited Touchstones Museum on 11 and 12 December as part of the Supporting People with Dementia Reminiscence project.

The 26 users and carers went to see the current exhibitions and the archive at the Museum to stimulate conversations about the past though the collections of various objects and photographs.

The tour guides at the museum, Charlie Rowley, Jane, Mark, Sarah and Janet showed the visitors round and translation was provided by Mohammed Sarwar, CWTC who organised the visit.

Councillor Janet Emsley joined the visit, and answered questions from the visitors, many of whom were not aware of the Museum.

The visitors enjoyed the great collections, particularly about herbs and which stimulated their own memories in a relaxing environment.

Many said they would come again with family and that the staff were very friendly.

Mr Sarwar said: “I was pleased with the outcome for the users and carers who have realised that the Museum offered so many things and activities that they could relate and engage with. I would like to thank the staff at the Museum for their support.”
