Ashbrook Hey Lane affected by two days of power cuts

Date published: 11 December 2018

Around 60 homes on Ashbrook Hey Lane were affected by two days of power cuts on Friday 7 and Saturday 8 December.

Residents say ‘a generator was promised’ by Electricity North West, but this didn’t materialise, an old people home was without power, and food in freezers was ruined as everything defrosted.

A spokesperson for Electricity North West, said: “A fault at a local substation caused intermittent power cuts in Rochdale on Friday and Saturday impacting around 60 customers.

“The first outage occurred at 2.47pm on Friday and we restored power at 3.30pm.

“Engineers also fitted specialist equipment to help locate the fault and monitor the network, but unfortunately a further four intermittent power outages occurred on Saturday.

“Restoration efforts were hampered by severe weather on Saturday and also a reported gas leak.

“As soon as it was safe to do so we were able to connect a generator at 7.25pm on Saturday and restore power to customers whilst we carried out a full repair.

“We would like to apologise to customers for the inconvenience caused and if customers would like any further information they can contact us 24/7 by calling the free 105 number.”
