Heywood Township councillors with local veterans
Local veterans have repainted the names on Heywood Cenotaph, free of charge.
Names engraved on the war memorial had begun to fade, having been there for decades.
Following a contract quote of over £9,000 for the task, local veterans stepped in to repaint the names of their armed force comrades.
As a result, Heywood Township have extended grateful thanks to the volunteers.
Councillor Peter Rush said: “We needed the engraved names repainting because they had been there that long that they were fading. We were quoted a contract price of £9,500.
“The veterans stepped in to volunteer and do this important job, free of charge.”
He added: “When they finished, it looked amazing and professional. Heywood Township sends them all a massive thank you.”
