The Circles of Art award £1K grant toward Hopwood Hall Estate as an artistic hub

Date published: 19 November 2018

The Circles of Art has awarded £1K to Hopwood Hall Estate, to assist in the Hall’s goal to be an artistic hub for the local community and beyond.

Other organisations who have benefited since 2017 from The Circles of Art not-for-profit organisation, which gives assistance to smaller museums and galleries, include: The Bank Arts Centre and Hogarth’s House Museum amongst others.

Hopwood DePree of Hopwood Hall Estate, and Chairman of the community group ‘The Friends of Hopwood Hall Estate’ said: “We are thrilled to have the support of The Circles of Art.

“This is another wonderful step forward in our rescue effort.

“We’ve been working closely with other grant providers, such as Historic England, The Architectural Heritage Fund and Rochdale Council, to save Hopwood Hall so it can survive for generations to come.

“Having The Circles of Art join in that mission is a welcome addition and shows their faith and belief in Hopwood Hall Estate’s vision for the future.”

Hopwood DePree is a descendant of the Hopwood family, who owned Hopwood Hall for five-hundred years until the early 20th century. It is now owned by Rochdale Borough Council, which is managing and overseeing the emergency repair works. The council has entered an exclusive agreement with Hopwood DePree, whereby he has the option of acquiring the hall at a future date when he develops a detailed plan which can provide for the preservation and protection of the building.
