Inktech MD takes on 'dirty dozen' challenge for Mend Our Mountains

Date published: 01 October 2018

The managing director of Inktech is taking on a serious walking challenge.

Richard Duckworth, 36, from Littleborough, will walk all 13 ‘primary project’ paths due to be repaired through the The British Mountaineering Council’s (BMC) Mend Our Mountain’s Make One Million campaign.

He will walk 120 miles across 12 days, climbing the height of Everest in the process and visiting national parks from the Cairngorms to the South Downs.

The challenge – nicknamed the #dirtydozen – is supported by the BMC and aims to raise up to £10,000 for the Mend Our Mountains campaign.

Mend Our Mountains is a call to action to everyone who values the hills, mountains and landscapes of Britain. It aims to galvanise mass support for things we all use: the paths, bridleways and bridges which underpin our experiences in the great outdoors.

The current phase of Mend Our Mountains, Make One Million, is a year-long appeal to raise £1 million in total for a range of vital path repair projects within the UK’s entire family of 15 National Parks.

Mr Duckworth’s challenge, which started on 24 September in the Yorkshire Dales, will finish on 5 October in the high sub-arctic plateau of the Cairngorms.

He said: “I love the hills and mountains of Britain and am really excited to be able to support such a worthy cause.

“Protecting our landscapes and particular the paths leading to our finest spots and high summits really is something that means a lot to me. I’m passionate about walking and the outdoors and want to do my bit to help preserve these routes for our future generation; especially my own children.

“I’m hoping to raise as much sponsorship as possible as I go along which will go directly to the BMC’s Conservation & Access trust.”
