Man stabbed outside Middleton Arena in serious condition

A man is in a serious condition after he was was stabbed outside the Middleton Arena at around 10pm on Friday.

The 26-year-old man left the arena and was pursued by two offenders, who caught up and left him with a stab wound to his back. He was taken to and remains in hospital.

The offenders fled from the scene.

Police say enquiries into the full circumstances are ongoing.

Detective Sergeant Rich Shelton of GMP’s Rochdale borough, said: “This man was enjoying an evening watching the boxing when the offenders brought his night to an abrupt end.

“Local residents and businesses will see extra patrols in the area- if you have any questions about what happened last night, or want to pass on information; you can speak with them directly.

“The Arena was very busy last night, so I’d ask anyone who may have seen two men acting suspiciously, or with information that could help this investigation, to pass this to police.”

Anyone with information should contact police on 0161 856 4646 quoting incident number 2313 of 22/06/18. Reports can also be made anonymously through the independent charity Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
