Parkrunners brave wintery conditions to run in pyjamas

Date published: 19 March 2018

Parkrunners at Watergrove Reservoir on Saturday (17 March) braved the wintry weather running 5km in their pyjamas.

Many of the 53 dedicated runners chose to don their pyjamas for the day, a national theme across Parkruns countrywide as Saturday was also National Sleep In Day.

Amongst them were David, Jess and Molly Bull, Brian and Dervla Moore, Niamh Roche, David Crewe and Darren Howarth, who rolled out of bed and ran 20 laps of the course (100k) between them to raise funds for Sport Relief.

All eight completed their final laps at the usual 9am start and crossed the line together to cheers at the finish line from volunteers and other parkrunners. They raised over £300 in total.

‘Sport Relief’ cupcakes made by Justine Bull were appreciated by all; donations for coffee and cakes went to the Sport Relief funds.

Race director Su Page said: “It was great to see so many people in PJs.

“As always, a huge thank you goes to our remarkable volunteers. They were amazing braving the elements, a huge thank you as we seriously couldn’t have a park run without you.

"A big thank you to also goes to Saturday’s barcode scanner, Ethan, who is only seven-years-old, he did a fabulous job.”

Watergrove Parkrun attracts an average of 51 runners each week and has taken place on a regular Saturday basis at the reservoir since June 2014. It is free to enter but prior registration is required.
