Milnrow and Newhey councillor Neil Butterworth says the sale of Ogden firm P W Greenhalgh - saving 81 local jobs - is “fantastic” news.

The firm went into administration earlier this year, but has now been sold to specialist textile firm Redwood Holding Group.

Councillor Butterworth said: “This is fantastic news for Greenhalgh’s and for the local area. We're losing too many manufacturing jobs. I'm really pleased for all the workers there as they must have been really worried about the future of their jobs.

“The fact the company had been sold to a specialist textile firm which is looking to invest in P W Greenhalgh means the future of the company is now far more secure.

“Greenhalgh is a long-established textile finishing company with a skilled workforce. It would have been criminal to let the firm go under.

“It's not often you read about good news for manufacturing in the UK.

“My worry was the firm would have been closed down, the jobs lost and the land sold off for housing. It's important for the future of villages like Newhey and Ogden that we retain much needed jobs in the area, not just for today’s workers, but for future generations too.

“I would like to thank the administrators BDO LLP for doing an excellent job in finding a buyer and securing the future for such an important local firm and local jobs.”
