Royal National Institute of Blind People stamp appeal

Date published: 11 December 2017

The Royal National Institute of Blind People (RNIB) is asking people to collect used stamps from Christmas cards and parcels and they will "recycle them into much-needed funds".

A spokesperson said: "There are millions of cards and parcels sent in the run-up to Christmas each year, so ask your friends, family or work colleagues to get involved as well.

"At RNIB we love and value all stamps - whether they have already been used, first or second class, foreign, first day covers, presentation packs or albums. We can use them all to raise funds for blind and partially sighted people across the UK. Stamps are sold by weight and we raise £20 per kilogram, so it is one of the easiest ways to raise money."

Step by step guide

  • Step 1 – To get pre-paid collection envelopes or boxes, complete the request form or call Xchange Master, on 01413 289357.
  • Step 2 – Start collecting stamps as they come through your postbox. Stamps do not need to be thoroughly sorted, but it helps if you can separate them into British and Overseas (Channel Islands and Isle of Man count as foreign). Just be sure to leave a one centimetre of envelope or packaging around each stamp.
  • Step 3 – Pack up your envelope or box and post using the pre-paid address labels.

Complete the request form:

Why donate?

Every day 250 people will begin to lose their sight and many will face a future without any help or support. By supporting RNIB this Christmas, you can help change this and give people with sight loss the gift of a brighter future.
