Proposal for retirement living accommodation in Bamford unanimously approved by Council

Date published: 08 December 2017

Permission has been granted by Rochdale Borough Council for a proposal to redevelop land off Norden Road, Bamford.

Councillors on the Planning and Licensing Committee voted unanimously on Monday to approve the application by McCarthy and Stone to redevelop the site with retirement living accommodation, following planning officers’ recommendation to approve.

The scheme will deliver 30 Retirement Living apartments, comprising 14 one-bedroom and 16 two-bedroom units. The new development will also provide 24 car parking spaces, as well as enhanced landscaping and planting, which will be maintained by McCarthy and Stone’s management company.

Following the decision, Ian Wilkins, Regional Managing Director for McCarthy and Stone North West, said: “We are delighted that our plans to deliver much-needed retirement housing in Bamford have been approved by Rochdale councillors. We know there is a real need for specialist housing in Rochdale, supported by the fact that many local residents have expressed an interest in purchasing our apartments.

“We have worked hard to produce a scheme that will provide high-quality retirement accommodation for Bamford, and positively contribute to the character of the local area.”

“We would like to thank local stakeholders and the community for their input and feedback throughout the planning process, and look forward to starting work on these plans with construction due to begin on site in early 2018.”
