Rochdale Connections Trust awarded £182,000 from Children In Need

Date published: 27 June 2017

Rochdale Connections Trust have just been awarded a Children In Need grant of £182,000 over three years to work with children and young people up to the age of 18 across the Borough of Rochdale who have been affected by domestic abuse.

Bev Place, Rochdale Connections Trust, said: “Funding will provide an intense, yet fun programme of weekly support interventions specifically for children who come from homes where domestic abuse has occurred.

"Their parents must be engaging in a domestic abuse programme suited to their unique situation with us. Indeed, the greatest concern to parents following acknowledgement that they are in an abusive relationship is their children and the impact it has had on them.

“Our aim is to help children and young people come to terms with their experiences and to develop positive lifestyle and coping strategies. We will achieve this via delivery of a range of intense 1:1 mentoring, associated group work and fun recreational activities; where beneficiaries will be encouraged to switch off and enjoy themselves.

“Beneficiaries aged 11-18 years will access ‘The Recovery Toolkit for Children and Young People’, which we are trained to facilitate, as a fundamental part of their programme.

“Delivered over eight weeks it provides a unique approach using a combination of psycho-education, trauma focused cognitive behaviour therapy and person-centred therapeutic principles. Younger children, aged two to 10 years will access a range of suitable play-therapy delivered by qualified practitioners, designed to aid the emotional recovery and attachment issues following their various experiences.”

“This funding will allow delivery of a much-needed programme that will impact significantly on those with greatest across the Borough.

“The programme will go live as soon as staff are recruited to post and trained, which we anticipate will be September 2017.

“Anyone wanting further information in the interim should contact Rochdale Connections Trust on 01706 345111.”
