Second theft from a vehicle reported in Balderstone

Date published: 14 January 2017

A second resident has reported items stolen from his van in the early hours of Monday 9 January in the Pennine Gate estate off New Broad Lane, Rochdale.

Josh Hughes, of Apple Tree Way, reported the theft of his tool bag from his Ford Transit Custom van. A similar theft was reported by neighbour Johnny Luker, of Ginnel Farm Avenue, on the same morning.

Mr Luker had electrical equipment stolen from his Volkswagon Caddy van, and said he also believed that another resident in the Pennine Gate estate had items stolen from a vehicle, although this was not reported to the police.

Mr Hughes said he was not aware of another theft until he read about it on Rochdale Online.

Mr Hughes said: “I don’t think they knew what they were looking for, because they’ve took my tool bag which means I’ve had to wait for replacements and I haven’t been able to get my work done this week.

“I think the thieves have used some sort of skeleton key as there was small damage around the lock.”

A police spokesperson said: “Just before 7.15am on Monday 9 January, officers attended reports of a theft from a vehicle parked on Apple Tree Way, Rochdale.

“Between 10pm on Sunday 8 January and 7am Monday 9 January, unknown offenders gained access to a vehicle and stole a rucksack from within.

“Enquiries are ongoing. Anyone with any information is asked to contact police on 101, or the independent charity Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.”
