Date published: 12 January 2017

Severe delays of up to 50 minutes are to be expected on the M62 after a crash earlier today near J21 (Thursday 12 January) closed the motorway.

Two of the four lanes on the eastbound carriageway have since reopened, but traffic is affected as far back as J9 of the M60.

Three patients were taken to hospital, including a male in his 60s, after a two car collision on J21 of the M62 closed the motorway at 1.15pm today.

A GMP spokesperson said: “We were called at 1.20pm to junction 21 of the M62 near Milnrow to reports of a two vehicle collision.”

A North West Ambulance Service spokesperson said: “We took two patients to Royal Oldham Hospital, and one to Salford Royal.

“One patient suffered major trauma and another had neck and back injuries.”

Highways and Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue also attended the scene.
