RBH welcomes Estate Regeneration Strategy

Date published: 09 December 2016

Rochdale Boroughwide Housing (RBH) has welcomed the launch of the Government’s national Estate Regeneration Strategy, announced on Thursday (8 December) by Communities Secretary Sajid Javid.

A spokesperson for RBH said: “RBH welcomes the launch of the Government’s national Estate Regeneration Strategy. We are pleased to see the additional funding and the commitment to investment in different types of housing markets across the country.

“We have been talking to Government officials for several months about how the Estate Regeneration Strategy and resources from the Estate Regeneration Fund could help to support RBH investment in College Bank and Lower Falinge to improve both the quality of our homes and provide better opportunities for people living there.

“This announcement provides an opportunity for RBH to access Government funding to continue and progress our work with the local community, and our Greater Manchester and local partners, to identify and assess options for improving College Bank and Lower Falinge. RBH intends to grasp this opportunity.”

The strategy comes as part of a new blueprint for regenerating deprived housing estates across the country, with an extra £32 million pounds of funding available.

This means councils, housing associations and developers can bid for a share of the total £172 million pounds investment in order to transform local neighbourhoods.

Advice on transforming areas will also be available to address common issues that can stop projects.

The new national strategy was developed by an independent advisory panel, chaired by Lord Heseltine and Gavin Barwell, Housing and Planning Minister.
