Donna Chadwick pleads for dog owners to be responsible after cat attack

Date published: 28 September 2016

Donna Chadwick is calling for dog owners to keep their pets on a lead after her cat Snowy had to be put down following an attack in Heywood on Saturday night (24 September).

At around 8.00pm, Snowy was sat on the front garden wall when a young man with three racing dogs walked past. Two were on a lead whilst the third, which attacked the black-and-white cat, was not.

The owner of the dogs is understood to have attempted to pull his dog off Snowy but the two leashed dogs joined in.

Snowy was rushed to a veterinary clinic in Bury for an x-ray and given painkillers through a drip. Treatment could have helped Snowy, but would have diminished his quality of life, so Donna made the difficult decision to put her beloved pet to sleep.

Donna, who has seven other cats, said: “I live in a quiet area; there’s lots of cats and my neighbours have dogs. Most of my cats are outdoor cats, but they all get on with the dogs. One of my cats sits on the wall to wait for the neighbour’s dog in the morning.

“I have been keeping them in a lot more because I’m scared of history repeating itself. This was preventable.

“Snowy was my oldest cat. I loved him to the moon and back and then some more.”
