Blaze at Smallbridge industrial unit
Firefighters have been working to bring a blaze under control at an industrial unit in Smallbridge.
Crews rushed to the scene on Spring Mill Walk at approximately 4.00am, after receiving a call that piles of waste had gone up in flames.
The fire then ripped through the building and was producing thick plumes of smoke into the air as engines arrived from Rochdale, Littleborough and Heywood.
Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service confirmed that crews were still on scene dampening down at midday today (18 August).
A spokesperson said: “The fire was more or less under control by 8.00am, but with it being so much waste it has taken quite a long time to ensure it isn’t still smouldering.
“The crews are still there dampening everything down.”
The cause of the fire is not yet known.
