Gang in £500,000 scam to steal luxury cars and sell parts on eBay

Date published: 24 May 2016

A Rochdale gang stole £500,000 of luxury cars before chopping them up and selling the parts on eBay.

Ringleader Mark Stanley, of Gorse Road, ran the scam across the north of England along with brothers Razwan Ahmed, 31, Ihtasham Ahmed, 30, and Irfan Ahmed, 33, where at least 37 vehicles were taken in robberies and burglaries.

Their crime spree started in 2010 but the gang was caught by undercover police in May 2012.

Stanley and the Ahmed brothers were found to be hiding their illegal business at premises called New Mills Cottages in Rochdale, where expensive BMWs and Audis were stashed.

Irfan and Razwan Ahmed had been running a legitimate car breaking business called ‘Northwest Carparts’ which was used as a front.

Stanley was jailed for three years and six months for conspiring to disguise criminal property.

Ihtasham Ahmed, of Park Road, was given three years behind bars after pleading guilty to conspiring to disguise criminal property.

Razwan Ahmed and Irfan Ahmed, both of Park Road, were sentenced to four and half years in jail after being convicted of conspiring to disguise criminal property.

Benjamin Taylor, 26, was a qualified car mechanic recruited by the gang and even helped to break up the vehicles. Taylor, of Chipping Fold, was sentenced to 18 months in jail.

Dion Faith, of Coppy Bridge Drive, and Paul Clegg, 47, of Elliot Street, were given a six month sentence suspended for 18 months for disguising criminal property.

Clegg was ordered to carry out 150 hours of unpaid work.
