Two further arrests in connection with Jalal Uddin murder

Two further arrests have been made in connection with the murder of Jalal Uddin.

A 28-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of conspiracy to commit murder. A 24-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of arranging funds for terrorism under Section 17 of the Terrorism Act 2000.

Both remain in custody for questioning.

A third man, 21, who had previously been arrested on suspicion of conspiracy to commit murder is in custody for further questioning after answering bail today.

This brings the total number of individuals arrested in connection with the murder to six.

Assistant Chief Constable Rebekah Sutcliffe said: “The investigation into Jalal’s murder has so far been a far-reaching and diligent process with a team of officers working meticulously to examine every lead that has come to light.

“We are continuing to make good strides in the investigation which would not be possible without the understanding and support of members of the public and I would like to thank them for their patience whilst we work through our enquiries.

“The investigation remains very much active and we are continuing to appeal to anyone who may have information that they believe can assist us to please contact police.”

As well as the three men today, the details for the other arrests are:

A 31-year-old man was arrested on Friday 19 February 2016 on suspicion of murder but later released without charge and eliminated from police enquiries.

A 17-year-old boy who was previously arrested on Monday 22 February on suspicion of murder answered bail on 20 April 2016 and was re-bailed until 1 June 2016.

Mohammed Hussain Syeedy (born 11/10/1994) of Ramsay Street, Rochdale, has been charged with murder and conspiracy to commit murder. He appeared at Bury Magistrates Court on Monday 29 February 2016 where he was remanded and scheduled to appear at Manchester Crown Court on 22 August 2016.
