Greater Manchester stands together for Workers' Memorial Day

Date published: 28 April 2016

The region’s Mayor and Police and Crime Commissioner is standing together with workers across Greater Manchester in remembrance of those who have lost their lives at work.

As the world marks Workers’ Memorial Day, Tony Lloyd said: “Today, we remember the thousands of people who one day said goodbye to their families to go to work and provide for their loved ones as they would any other day, only to never come home.

“Nobody should die while doing their job and in Greater Manchester we are committed to working together with employers to ensure all our workplaces are safe workplaces. That includes ensuring the health, wellbeing and safety of our workforce is central to businesses and organisations, making sure staff have the time and equipment to do their job, and investing in training and skills development.

“Investment in the wellbeing and safety of our workforce is investment in the wider community, contributing to a thriving, self-sustaining Greater Manchester. That will be a legacy to those we remember today.”

Workers’ Memorial Day takes place each year on 28 April.
