Aaron Russell calculates career success

Date published: 15 February 2016

Aaron Russell is completing a PhD in Applied Mathematics after achieving a First Class Master’s Degree in Mathematics and Physics at the University of Manchester.

Aaron, a former Falinge Park High School and Bury College student  from Rochdale, achieved two A*’s in Physics and Maths and an A in Geography before progressing onto the University of Manchester and would like to pursue an exciting career within the Maths and Physics industry.

During his time at Bury College, Aaron enjoyed being part of the Mentoring for Excellence scheme, a programme which invites all students to benefit from specialist guidance and support as well as trips and visits.

Aaron said: “I am really proud of all that I have achieved at university. Bury College prepared me for this success as I received great support from my tutors and they really helped me with my university application. I also enjoyed a lot of exciting trips as a Mentoring for Excellence student such as a Geography field trip to Blencathra.”

During his PhD, Aaron will be doing research on granular flows, particularly looking at 'Particle Size Segregation in Granular Avalanches'. Aaron is looking forward to a career within the Maths and Physics industry and believes the PhD will help him to make contacts to allow career progression.
