"Tickets row - an opportunity for clubs like Rochdale," says Andy Kelly

Date published: 09 February 2016

Councillor Andy Kelly, Leader of Rochdale Lib Dems, says the current row over the rising costs of Premiership football tickets is an ideal opportunity for clubs like Rochdale.

The row, which escalated at the weekend as Liverpool fans staged a walkout after 77 minutes in protest at match day prices going up to £77, has prompted the Councillor Kelly to suggest that clubs like Rochdale should use football fan's fury to boost attendances.

Arsenal currently have the most expensive match-day ticket in the top tier of English Football - visiting the Emirates will set you back a budget busting £97. The most expensive ticket at Manchester City and Manchester United are £58. Rochdale charge £22 for the most expensive tickets and a value for money £17 for the cheapest.

Councillor Kelly said: "It makes perfect sense for fans to attend Spotland and to see Keith Hill's team battle in the third tier of English Football.

"Rochdale are currently 14th in League One but have shown flashes of brilliance in an inconsistent season. For pure entertainment value, our club is hard to beat. We've previously seen players like Rickie Lambert, Adam Le Fondre and Craig Dawson grace our club. Who knows, players like Ian Henderson, who's banging in goals for fun could get to the very top. This is your opportunity to see players like Ian without breaking the bank."

Rochdale provide great value for money for football fans. The most expensive £22 ticket is still 10% below the league average.
