Heywood and Rochdale cancer fundraisers join forces

Date published: 25 January 2016

After many years and hundreds of thousands pounds raised separately for Cancer Research UK, the Heywood Local Committee and Rochdale Local Committee of Cancer Research UK have this month united to create a new fundraising super group.

For many years the two committees have worked within the same borough, often holding events and meetings just streets apart, and now feel that the time is right to combine their events and supporters to boost their profile and fundraising.

Both groups have been extremely active over the last 30+ years, organising a variety of events from coffee mornings and dinners to dance events and musical concerts.

Each member of these two committees have stories to tell as to why they became involved in fundraising for Cancer Research UK. Three of them are breast cancer survivors themselves and value all the valuable research which contributed to the success of their treatment and now wish to help others. Many of the rest of the members have lost close loved ones to this awful disease and indeed the two previous chairpersons of the Heywood Committee lost their fight against cancer.

Jack Leetch, Local Fundraising Manager for Cancer Research UK, said: “We are really pleased that the Heywood and Rochdale Committees have joined forces. For many years they have both done fantastic raising thousands of pounds and spreading the work of Cancer Research UK in their local area, and now they have combined their resources and networks – it can only mean good things. The Heywood and Rochdale Local Committee are really helping us to beet cancer sooner and we wish them the best of luck with their upcoming events.”

All money raised by the Heywood and Rochdale Local Committee funds lifesaving research at the Cancer Research UK Institute in Manchester.
