Katie McGlynn swaps Coronation Street for the Brecon Beacons

Date published: 12 January 2016

Coronation Street star Katie McGlynn, will join colleagues Catherine Tyldesley and Tisha Merry in swapping the world famous cobbles of Weatherfield, for an arduous 50km trek through the Brecon Beacons, to raise money for charity this summer.

The trio who play Sinead Tinker, Eva Price and Steph Britton, are taking part in TrekFest on 4 June 2016.

Katie, from Littleborough, said: "I'm really looking forward to getting stuck in to the challenge. We will be going on some training treks in the spring to wear in our hiking boots and get used to climbing hills. I have been told this certainly isn’t going to be a walk in the park!

TrekFest is the ultimate endurance challenge, with thousands of people set to take part.
Taking part alongside friends and family as part of ‘Team Vital’, the ladies have chosen to raise funds for The Joshua Wilson Brain Tumour Charity based in Manchester, and Parkinson’s UK.

The Brecon Beacons offer a beautiful setting for TrekFest, which is organised by Global Adventure Challenges, and provide an extreme physical workout and a psychologically taxing challenge. Participants will cross the highest peaks in the Beacons and South Wales including Pen Y Fan (886m), Corn Du (873m), Cribyn (795m) and Fan Y Big (719m).

Mum of Joshua Wilson aka SuperJosh and co-founder of The Joshua Wilson Brain Tumour Charity, Dawn Fidler said: “When I heard that Catherine, Katie and Tisha had chosen us as their local charity I was thrilled. What they are doing to raise funds is amazing and will be a huge boost to allow us to continue giving direct support to children with brain tumours and post surgery disabilities across Greater Manchester. The whole of the SuperJosh family is 100% behind them and we hope they have a lot of fun along the way.”

Paul Jackson-Clark, Director of Fundraising at Parkinson’s UK, said: “We are so excited to hear that Parkinson’s UK is going to be involved with this amazing challenge. Our Welsh colleagues in particular are jumping up and down in anticipation, and it will be fantastic to be able to highlight the great work that we do across the UK. We can’t thank Team Vital enough for their support”.

Managing Director and co-founder of Global Adventure Challenges, Peter Robinson, said: "We are delighted that Catherine, Katie and Tisha have chosen to take part in TrekFest. With the numbers growing year on year is has now become one of our leading events. Although 50km is a pretty tough challenge that will test the girls’ endurance to the full, it is highly achievable with the right training."
