Advice day for young people with learning disabilities
Date published: 10/01/2008
Teenagers across the borough who have learning disabilities are being given a chance to find out about opportunities open to them once they leave school.
An event called 'Moving On' is being held next week where youngsters due to leave secondary school, along with parents and carers, will be able to meet day service providers and representatives from local colleges. There'll also be information from a number of voluntary sector organisations and advice groups from around the borough.
Cabinet member for health and social care, Councillor Dale Mulgrew, said: "It's really important that we help young people with learning difficulties - and their families - to plan for the future. This event is also about seeing what needs there are in the borough and ensuring that the social care services that we provide meet those needs."
'Moving On' is taking place at Redwood Secondary School in Rochdale on Tuesday 15 January 2008 between 10am and 2pm. It is hoped that it will become an annual event.
Anyone wanting more information or advice about opportunities for young people with learning disabilities should contact the council on 0845 226 5580.
