Sudden junctions update
Date published: 18/03/2008
The weekend closures at the junction where Manchester Road meets Edinburgh Way and Roch Valley Way are now finished.
The resurfacing work was completed on Sunday 9 March, well in advance of schedule and there are no more weekend closures planned as part of this junction improvement scheme. All diversion signs have now been taken down. This junction will continue to operate as a small roundabout until the traffic signals are switched on in a few weeks time. The signals will become operational once the electricity supply has been provided, and all the traffic signs and bollards have been put up.
The section of Manchester Road between the two roundabouts is reduced to one lane westbound at all times, and, during off peak periods, one lane eastbound. This is to facilitate the recreation of the central reserve, and is expected to be ongoing for several weeks.
Off peak lane closures are necessary on Edinburgh Way, on Monday 17 March and Tuesday 18 March to lay anti-skid finishing on the approaches to the new crossing. The surfacing next to the Waggon and Horses pub will be completed on Tuesday evening.
Some traffic management is required on the link road between Manchester Old Road and Manchester Road. The footpath closure also remains in place.
Work at the junction where Silk Street meets Bolton Road and Manchester Road has now begun, and will continue until the end of May 2008. Off peak lane closures at the roundabout are necessary on Monday 17th March and Tuesday 18th March, while the drainage is being installed. Off peak lane closures are also necessary on Bolton Road to remove the existing traffic island.
No work will be carried out from Friday 21 March until Tuesday 25 March for the Easter weekend, to minimise disruption for the local community.
