LSP vice-president resigns over Syke funding cut

Date published: 15/01/2008

Well known local solicitor and director of Rochdale Online, John Kay, has resigned from the Board of the Local Strategic Partnership (LSP) in protest at the discontinuation of funding for Syke Community Base.

Mr Kay, who was vice-president of the LSP, has been considering his position since the announcement that funding would end in April, a decision he strongly disagrees with, and having come to the conclusion that he has no option but to resign handed his resignation letter to LSP chairman Mohammed Naeem yesterday (Monday 15 January) morning.

Mr Kay has given many years unpaid service to the LSP and its predecssor and in explaining the reasons for his departure said: "the final straw was the decision to decommission the Syke Community Project.

"In a democracy if by following the procedures an outcome results which you cannot accept then there is little alternative but to resign.

"I do hope that Rochdale MBC can find a way to support the Syke Community Project."
