Council Leader recuperating after fortnight in Infirmary

Date published: 04/11/2008

Leader of Rochdale Borough Council, Councillor Alan Taylor is recovering after spending two weeks in Rochdale Infirmary. Councillor Taylor suffered a repeat of the heart problems he suffered in July. He has now been warned to ‘take it easy’ before a return to public life. Councillor Taylor will now take some time off before returning to full council duties. Councillor Irene Davidson will continue as ‘Acting Leader’ and the Council’s Cabinet will assume more responsibilities.

Councillor Taylor had special praise for the staff at Rochdale Infirmary. He said: “They were absolutely wonderful. I was looked after in the centre of excellence for heart problems and they were outstanding.

"Whilst I am recuperating, Councillor Irene Davidson will continue the excellent job she is doing.

"I have been warned not to rush back to work but I have full confidence in the leadership of Councillor Davidson and my Cabinet.”

Councillor Taylor was rushed into hospital after a dramatic increase in his heart beat. He said: “Before I went into hospital I could only walk about three or four yards without stopping. I still feel very weak but I am getting better every day.

"I receive regular briefings on Council matters from my councillors and the Executive Leadership Team at the Council.”
