Lucy reached the finals in the 50m and 200m, setting two new personal bests.

In the 50m she was ranked 23rd before the event. Her times from the heat meant she qualified for the final top ten, finishing last in the final, but boosting her rankings up to 10th place.

Lucy was ranked 14th before the 200m event, going into the final with the third quickest time. In the final, she came fourth with a new pb of 2:39:94 and was ranked 5th in Britain.

Kylie Cannavan, Lucy's mum said: “Lucy aims to work very hard and make every swim count. Her dreams are getting bigger.

“It’s been a fantastic achievement for her and shows that it’s not too late to start swimming.”

Now ranked sixth in Britain for her age category, Lucy, who began swimming at the age of 12 after seeing how much her younger brother enjoyed competing, recently brought home medals from the ASA North Regional Championships in June.

The teenager was also recently presented with the Keri-Anne Payne Award for Outstanding Contribution to Sports at Cardinal Langley by former Aquabear and Olympian, Keri-Anne Payne herself.
