Leased garages fall into disrepair

Date published: 03 August 2018

Leased garages on Howarth Green have fallen into disrepair, much to the dismay of local residents.

Former councillor Jean Ashworth, who lives nearby, said: “This has been ongoing for two years. If that garage falls, it will seriously injure or kill a child. It’s the school holidays; children think it’s a good hiding place.

“Surely it’s up to RBH to maintain empty plots which are massively overgrown with trees and weeds.

“The garage has an asbestos roof, which is falling off, and I would have thought the garage comes under the dangerous building department.”

A spokesman for RBH said: “These plots are leased by RBH and it is the responsibility of each leaseholder to erect and maintain their own garage.

“We intend to check on the intentions of the leaseholder as a matter of priority, and we will take urgent action should the state of any plot pose a risk to residents.”
